E.P.F.F.A. Boat Championships Rutland Water

Gentlemen

At one time I think I did have a winter hibernation, but alas either I'm getting too old and my memory is starting to fade or it never happened. Anyway as I sit here dreaming about a time in the not too distant future when I will hang up my organisational cap and you will only find me during the summer months on the bank of some gentle flowing stream wondering which fly to cast to attract that rising trout at the far side of the pool.

Right........ before the comments flow in about my casting ability or that I'd probably lose the fly on a branch above, opposite or behind the stream your secretary is allowed to dream.

Can I ask that you have a look at the following events and dates, check your diaries and let the membership know what fishing is coming up this year.

The following anglers qualified for the British team and once I spoken with the team Captain, anglers will be notified regarding the arrangements for the two British events:

Stevie Rea (Capt.) PSNI, Jim McBride (Vice Capt) Police Scotland; Gary Haskins, John Comer, Stevie Bushell, Steve Evans (Avon & Somerset); Alan Hill, Dave Mateer (Police Scotland); Martin Allen, Mark Robinson (PSNI), Mark Matheson (Northants), Wynne Griffith (Dyfed Powys)

Can I please ask that each Regional Secretary with angler in the British team, make contact with the angler ensures they have the two dates (April & June) for the British matches and ascertains the following: A contact telephone number, current email address, shirt size and the correct spelling of names to be sown on to the garment. I require this information by the 12th February.

Just to provide a brief update since our meeting in September.

I attended the Police Sport UK meeting held in London in December, the main reason for my attendance as you know was to seek a change to Rule 36 of the Police Sport UK Constitution in respect of allowing individuals who had left the police family through forced or voluntary redundancy to remain eligible to fish Police Sport UK events. I did include a caveat to my proposal to only allow members of Sports Associations to continue to participate if they met the criteria of their local constitution i.e. in Scotland someone who had been a continuing member for their sports association for the previous 10 years.  Although considerable discussion took place and I had the support of Sir Anthony Burden at the meeting as I delivered my presentation, Police Sport UK rejected my submission.

So in conclusion the letter submitted by the Police Service if Northern Ireland Freshwater Angling Association, where the question was asked as to whether or not Scotland had fielded an ineligible angler at the 2014 Home International, has been upheld. I have amend the record for the 2014 Home International deducting the one fish and 1lb 05oz weight, caught by the identified angler. This did not affect the overall placings of the event, I noted from our meetings in June and September there was no appetite from the members present to dissect the affair further it was a genuine error by the Scottish Association in its transition from the Scottish Police Angling Association to its current format under the Scottish Police Recreation Association. The matter will be on the agenda for the June meeting for committee members to make comment, though I would seek to bring closure on the matter at that time.

The gentleman involved has been contacted and informed that he will still be welcome to attend and fish Scottish events, which he is keen to do. I expressed my disappointment with the ruling, it seems incredible that once in receipt of his police traffic warden pension in 2033 he will once again be eligible to fish Police Sport UK matches.

Please note the Home International (Five Nations) is the week of the 14th/15th September.....not the week earlier as announced at the meeting in September.......the date was not available that week. Kenny you and I need to thrash out this event to ensure it is of a similar success to Wales, we also need to examine how we are to deliver the River Championship at the same time,

I await the Entry Form for the National Championships at Chew, Nigel was off skiing when I talked to him last I hope he has returned safely and the form will be with you for the end of January.

Tight Lines, Calum Fraser.
